Chelsea are set to miss out on Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko.

The Blues have been long-time admirers of the 18-year-old Bundesliga striker and were linked with bringing him in to solve their issues up-front. But Graham Potter now appears to have missed out on his transfer target.

According to the Standard, Chelsea are set to lose the race for Moukoko’s signature to Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

The German teenager is said to have received a “substantial verbal approach” by the Magpies, which could see him earn a whopping £150,000-per-week. They are thought to have discussed the deal in a bid to sign the player on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Moukoko has made 44 league appearances for Dortmund since his 2020 debut, scoring 11 times. But it was his mind-blowing stats at youth level that first caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs.

The Cameroonian-born forward is claimed to have netted an extraordinary 141 goals in just 88 games for the German giants in their u-17 and u-19 sides.

Moukoko is now also the youngest debutant in Champions League history and the youngest ever Bundesliga goal-scorer.

Yet the youngster is far from the only Bundesliga forward approached by Chelsea of late. The Blues in December completed a deal for RB Leipzig talisman Christopher Nkunku which will see him play at Stamford Bridge next season.

They have also shown interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram, despite winning the race to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid ahead of rivals Arsenal.
