HotCars digital artist Rostislav Prokop reignites the much-loved classic muscle car with some modern style and technology.
What if you imagined that one of your favorite muscle cars had magically metamorphosed into the most badass version of itself? Well, you don’t need to imagine since HotCars digital artist Rostislav Prokop has done just that with a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner.
In a new digital render, he transformed the much-loved classic it a thing of ultra-modern beauty. However, you’ll also see that he still honors the car’s most memorable features in his new interpretation.
How The Plymouth Road Runner Stays Faithful To The Original
Prokop’s render is a two-door pillared coupe, which echoes the earliest Plymouth Road Runners that rolled off the assembly line. In the front, the artist has retained the low-profile cowl induction hood. The elongated rectangular grille looks similar, although he’s added modern carbon fiber vents. He echoes the signature Chrysler dual headlights, which graced not only the Road Runner but also its sibling, the Dodge Super Bee.
Moving toward the back, the familiar rectangular taillights stretch almost across the car’s entire width. This one feature practically shouts Road Runner in both the original and the render. Prokop also refreshes the car’s traditional dual exhaust system.
This Plymouth Road Runner Deletes The Looney Tunes
Prokop updates this car in important ways. The elegant two-tone scheme of black and gray is the most obvious. Gone are the high-impact Mopar Road Runner color offerings such as In-Violet and Curious Yellow. Even the deep-set, matte black wheels with their silver line coordinate well with the car’s exterior.
Another major way that the render brings the Road Runner into the 21st century is its significantly stanced look with extreme wheel wells and low-offset tires. This lowered appearance makes the car seem even longer than the original, which measured close to a whopping 17 feet.
Notice, too, how the artist swapped the Warner Bros. cartoon character logo for a simple Plymouth graphic. While old-school gearheads may question some of Prokop’s mods, he has indeed created a look for this Road Runner that is more complex and contemporary.
In terms of engine choices, we can think of only one that would be suitable for this Road Runner: Dodge’s 1,100-HP supercharged 6.2-liter V8 Hellephant crate engine. A fitting engine for a car that pays tribute to a Mopar classic.
